RiskSmart are a UK-based technology company that provide a modern, automated platform for Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC). Their SaaS platform helps organisations manage every aspect of their risk register, from centralising risk data, improving consistency, to giving teams a single source of truth.
As risk managers themselves, the RiskSmart team understand the frustrations of manual processes, fragmented information, and stretched resources. As customer expectations evolve, they saw an opportunity to use AI to reduce manual effort and enhance decision-making, without compromising regulatory compliance.
RiskSmart partnered with Deltuo to help them turn that vision into production-ready AI features.
The Challenge
RiskSmart had an established product and growing customer base, but they faced a number of challenges:

The Approach
Deltuo embedded a small, senior engineering team working directly with RiskSmart's developers and product stakeholders to identify, refine, develop and integrate features that add real value to RiskSmart's users - not just adding AI for AI sake.
Together, we focussed the team on augmenting existing workflows and reducing cognitive load for risk managers. The key elements of this approach included:
- Integrating AI features directly into the existing codebase
- Using a rules + AI hybrid model to ensure AI outputs were constrained and explainable
- Leveraging resilient and secure cloud based LLM's for completions and text embeddings
- Designing a recommendation engine to aid the user in managing their risk
- Ensuring outputs aligned with regulatory and compliance expectations
This approach allowed RiskSmart to introduce AI safely, without letting models "free-wheel" or undermine user trust.
